CHAPTER NINETEEN
AFTER SPENDING THE NIGHT with Reese, Josh kept thinking about what she had been through with the death of her sister Livvy, how much passion she had for helping children and their families, and the fact that construction on the children's hospital at St. Mary's had been brought to a halt. He wanted to help Reese live out her dreams. Maybe he couldn't solve all of her problems or answer all of her questions, but this was an area in which he could definitely help.
Josh had Agnes set up a meeting with Drew, a real estate agent he had worked with in the past. They'd worked together on a couple of deals. Josh respected Drew for his ability to think outside the box and yet be smart and fair about his decisions. Luckily, the agent happened to be available to meet with him later that day.
The real estate office was on the top floor. Josh announced himself to the receptionist. She was extremely polite, offering him some sparkling water and showing him to a meeting room where he was to meet the real estate agent. She was dressed in a black pencil skirt and white blouse. Josh figured she was the fantasy of all of the men in the office and then chuckled to himself when he compared the young and vibrant receptionist with Agnes.
While he waited, Josh went to the windows in the bright white room and took in the view. The high rise was one of the tallest in the city, giving Josh an incredible view of the downtown landscape with the river in the background. Flags at the waterfront danced softly in a gentle breeze coming from the northwest. Josh watched the sailboats heading down the river, their sails catching the wind, silently cruising out toward the coast.
Josh had been sailing with friends from time to time and enjoyed it. If he ever built his dream house on his lot down by the river, he intended to rebuild the decrepit dock and buy a sailboat to launch right from his backyard. He thought about the lot and the house he had designed. He wondered what Reese would think of it. Would she appreciate the wall of windows in the back that would give an unobstructed view of the gardens and the river? Josh shook his head for even thinking such a thing. He could admit that he was in love with Reese, but reminded himself to take it one step at a time. Then again, he argued with himself, he was here for her. He wanted to do this build for her. And Livvy. Even though he had never met her, the picture of the smiling, angelic face on the mantle still haunted him.
Before Josh's thoughts got too carried away, he was interrupted by a voice.
âGreat day to be on the water.â
Josh turned to see a tall man with short, dark hair who carried a black leather portfolio and wore what Josh assumed was a very expensive European suit.
